Cross Culture: A Taste of India in the Heart of Doylestown, PA

Every January, my fiancé John and I get dressed up and go out for a nice dinner somewhere to celebrate both my birthday and our anniversary.  With the closure of the Freight House restaurant in Doylestown, PA around the end of 2014/beginning of 2015 (where we got engaged), we were scratching our heads on where we were going to go every year to celebrate.  One day while we were up in Doylestown wandering around as we usually do, we came across a quaint Indian restaurant at the end of State Street and went inside to check it out.  We liked what we saw, grabbed a menu, and said we’d be back.  We started going there in 2016 and have gone there ever since.

Cross Culture, located at 62-64 West State Street in the main business district of Doylestown, PA, is one of six locations located in the Philadelphia area.  John and I started off with Pakora, vegetable fritters made with Chick Pea flour and is Gluten Free.  At the recommendation of our server Kenny (who is also the manager), I had my Pakora with the Plum sauce while John had his with the Mint Chutney sauce, which contained dairy.  While I have previously had the Fish Tikka Masala with the cream sauce before I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy, on my most recent visit I had the Fish Curry.  I found the Fish Curry to be savory as opposed to being overpoweringly spicy, which is a common presumption about Indian food.    John had his usual, the Chicken Tikka Masala in a cream sauce with a Mango Lassi, a yogurt drink, as his beverage.  For my beverage on my most recent visit, I tried the Indian Masala Iced Tea, which was subtly sweet and flavorful.

The restaurant itself is clean and dimly lit for comfortable dining.  The staff is friendly and the service is excellent.  The music on the P.A. system is also awesome.  John liked the music so much that Kenny gave him the names of the apps so he could download them on his phone.  This establishment is definitely worth a visit; if you do decide to go, reservations are recommended.
