The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant, Blue Bell, PA

One evening as I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, one of the advertisements happened to catch my interest.  It was for a local restaurant called The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant that offered packages for “Micro Weddings”.  Having not really thought about wedding planning in years because of various personal hardships which included a medical crisis, I decided to look into it just for curiosity’s sake.  I also figured that if I was finally getting back into thinking about resurrecting actual wedding plans, I thought it would be a good idea to check the place out and see what they had to offer in regards to the food. Of course, I had that lingering concern about my allergies to Gluten and Dairy, however I was certain that it wouldn’t be a problem if I did my due diligence and asked ahead of time if they could accommodate me due to my allergies.  When John and I went to check it out on our way to the Skippack Days street festival, we were not disappointed.  We loved it so much, we both decided that The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant will be where we’re going to take my mother for lunch to celebrate her 70th birthday in December.

The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant, located at 1401 Morris Road in Blue Bell, PA, is nestled within the Normandy Farms Hotel and Conference Center.  The property was originally purchased in 1730 by Jacob Levering and has changed many hands before being established as Normandy Farms by prominent Philadelphia businessman Ralph Strassburger in 1913.  Since the year 2000, Normandy Farms has been run by Hansen Properties; the restaurant was initially called Coleman’s and has been The Farmer’s Daughter for the last several years.

When John and I arrived, we were taken away by the rustic charm as we stepped into the lobby of the hotel.  We were met by our gracious hostesses Stephanie and her colleague Karen and given a tour of the premises along with the historical background provided by Karen.  We were then escorted into the restaurant which was spacious, comfortably lit, and boasted rustic chic décor with a modern flair.  The seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was perfect for pleasant conversation.

The real star of the day was the food.  Everything is locally sourced through the local farms in the area and is farm to table.  The menu changes every quarter with the seasons, so what would be on the menu in the Fall will most likely change come winter.  The food is fresh and made to order and time and care is taken in the preparation of the food.  I started off my meal with a savory vegetable soup served in a cast iron bowl. For the main course, since I wasn’t in the mood for a heavy meal, I ordered the Sweet Potato salad with roasted Sweet Potatoes, cranberries, toasted meringue, and a passion fruit-cloves dressing.  I also saw that there was quinoa and slivers of toasted almond in the salad as well, which made it all the more delicious.  The soup and the salad were perfectly portioned and just enough food.  I accompanied my meal with an Arnold Palmer; a combination of lemonade and iced tea.  John had a Turkey Burger on a brioche bun, which can be made in a platter sans bun for those with Gluten allergies along with a fresh brewed iced tea.  We both decided to splurge a little and indulge in the scrumptious desserts that The Farmer’s Daughter had to offer; for me, the dairy free Raspberry Sorbet accompanied by fresh berries and for John, since he’s not allergic to dairy, the Pumpkin Cheesecake.

Lunch at The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant is perfect for a special day out as a treat or for a special occasion.  It’s more than just a meal, it’s pretty much an experience.  Reservations are recommended.
