Café Life: Eating at the Chive Café in Lahaska, PA

One of the places that John and I like to go to every so often is Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, usually for one of the festivals that they have during the Spring/Summer (and sometimes in the Fall).  On the rare occasions that we’ve eaten lunch in the area, we usually choose a quaint café that is situated adjacent to the main parking lot of the Peddler’s Village complex.  John and I even took my Uncle Bobby there for lunch when he was visiting last year because he’s a vegetarian and we thought that Chive would be a good place for him to try (and it’s also one of the few places I can eat because of my allergies, I just have to modify what I order to comply with my dietary restrictions).

Chive Café, located at 5788 York Road, Lahaska, PA, is a small, charming breakfast/brunch/lunch place that is directly next door to the Peddler’s Village complex.  While they mostly offer sandwiches, the sandwiches can be placed on a bed of greens and eaten as a salad.  I had the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich sans bread, cheese, and pesto on a bed of greens with home fries with a side of hummus.  The Home Fries are cooked in oil and not butter and they were absolutely amazing.  The vegetables were grilled to perfection and were paired perfectly with the hummus.  If you have Gluten and Dairy allergies, or any allergies for that matter, please keep the following in mind.  Like anywhere else, please advise your server in advance about what allergies you have and state the specific omissions and/or to the meal you’re ordering.  Also keep in mind that if you are allergic to Gluten and/or Dairy, let the server know that you need to pick your own side as opposed to the chef choosing it for you; if the chef selects it, then it may be something you probably can’t eat.  Thankfully, they’re very flexible about that and are accommodating in regards to allergy and dietary restrictions.

The dining area is clean and well lit.  Chive Café also has outdoor dining or an enclosed porch where diners can enjoy eating al fresco. The staff is friendly and are accommodating to any dietary needs that you may have.  If you are ever in the vicinity of Peddler’s Village, whether you’re local to the area or visiting from out of town, Chive Café is the perfect spot to have a bite to eat.
